Shoppers are being warned that supermarket slots are running low at some stores this Christmas.

Tesco, Asda and M&S have already warned about limited slots for Christmas supermarket deliveries, the Manchester Evening News reports.

Tesco is experiencing high demand, while Asda has warned shoppers: 'Once slots are gone, they’re gone.'

Sainsbury's' is urging people not to leave it too late - and M&S says its slots are already running out.

It is clear, then, that shoppers would be foolish to leave it too late as the Christmas dash for groceries and gifts intensifies.

Naomi Schraer of MoneySavingExpert said: 'With ongoing coronavirus restrictions, it's likely supermarket delivery slots will be in even greater demand this year with some households keen to avoid the shops, so it's best to get in while you can.'

The Be Clever With Your Cash website also warns that even if you do get a slot, some must-need items might run out because of the Christmas rush.

So for those who want to plan things now, the MEN has taken a look at the available information.

Tesco

Tesco's website says: 'We're experiencing high demand for slots around Christmas'.

At the moment, shoppers can book a click and collect slot or a flexi saver delivery slot.

The supermarket advises people to book a slot and add a few items to checkout before giving yourself more time to make your final list.

Once you are ready to finish your order, go back and check out again by 11:45pm on the day before your delivery.

Don't worry if you have forgotten something, because you can also amend your order as many times as you like, but make sure to check out each time you do.

But be warned - if there are any Festive Food to Order items in your Christmas basket, you will need to check them out by 11.45pm on December 14.

Sainsbury's

Once you have secured a slot, you'll need to check out, but you won't be charged for your basket until the day of delivery or collection.

You can also amend your basket as many times as you like until 11pm the day before.

Every year in the run up to Christmas supermarkets are packed as people try to get their hands on a last-minute turkey and other essentials.

But with social-distancing in place this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, Asda, Sainsbury's, Tesco, Aldi and more have outlined new rules for shopping during the Christmas period to avoid over-crowding.

Extended opening hours, new rules on shopping alone and heading to the stores earlier are just some of the latest guidelines from supermarkets.

There are also delivery options available, although they are filling up fast, and more click and collect services have been announced too in a bid to make Christmas shopping easier and safer.

New queuing systems are also available in some supermarkets in Wales as the weather gets colder.

Sainsbury's

The supermarket is making moves to minimise time spent queuing and to help make customers' shopping experience smoother and quicker this December.

It has announced it will extend its trading times over the festive period but is asking customers to shop early and alone in order to reduce queues.

Most Sainsbury's supermarkets will open from 6am until midnight from December 21 to 23. You can find out more about the supermarket's opening hours here.

Retail and Digital Director at Sainsbury's, Clodagh Moriarty said: 'In a year like no other, we want to do everything we can to help our customers celebrate Christmas, making sure they have everything they need to make the festive season as special as possible.

'We also want to make sure customers and colleagues are kept safe, which is why we're opening our stores for longer and encouraging people to shop early and asking them to shop alone, where possible, this Christmas.

'This will help customers get in and out of shops quickly and safely and make sure everyone has what they need in plenty of time for the big day.'

Most Sainsbury's stores will open 6am to 7pm on Christmas Eve. Stores will remain closed on Christmas Day.

In the run up to Christmas, Aldi is also extending its opening hours, ensuring customers can shop safely in store, follow social distancing guidelines and provide more time to pick up last-minute food and gifts before the big day.

Stores will also be opening until 6pm on Christmas Eve, but Aldi has warned customers will need to check local store details online to avoid disappointment. See here for more on Aldi's Christmas opening hours 2020.

Aldi has also announced its click and collect service will be available across 25 stores in Wales before Christmas, this means shoppers can order their food online, book a time slot to collect it and have it brought to them upon arrival, meaning they'll avoid crowds.

Tesco

The supermarket made more delivery slots available in anticipation of high-demand for online services this year.

However, it was forced to issue a warning recently after they filled up fast.

A statement on their website read: 'We're really sorry but we now have very few slots left for 20–24 December. We're experiencing high demand for slots around Christmas.

'We're sorry if you're not able to book your preferred slot. Take a look at the following tips to help you manage your Christmas shopping with Tesco.'

Another option for Tesco shoppers is click and collect, which will allow you to pre-order your Christmas food and pick it up in store. You can read Tesco's top tips for a stress-free festive shop here.

And although Tesco is yet to reveal its Christmas 2020 opening times, according to Retail Weekly the store is planning to keep over 300 of its largest-format branches open for 24 hours over the festive period.

These extended hours will reportedly be implemented from December 14 until Christmas Eve, with smaller stores having their trading times increased by an hour.

Asda

The supermarket has not unveiled its Christmas hours yet.

It has confirmed, however, it will be delivering Christmas groceries between December 21 and 23. Slots are available to book now with delivery costing £3 on orders less than £40.

As with Tesco though, many of these slots are already full but customers can use click and collect to avoid entering the branch or queuing at checkout.

The supermarket is also trialling a new queuing system for the winter months, although so far this has only been rolled out to two Welsh stores.

To access it, shoppers will have to download an app which will allow them to queue virtually from their cars.

It's another option for customers if there is a long queue at the front of the store and they would rather wait in their car.

In Wales the new queuing system is available in Blackwood, Newport and Asda's Caerphilly store. You can find out more here.
